  1. A Walk Through Time in Portland -- Celebrating 200 Years!

    We are celebrating 200+ years of history in Portland, Maine! Are you curious about Portland's history with railroads, fires, wars, the underground railroad, famous poets and Hollywood producers? Join us on this walking tour through time. This tour will begin on Commercial Street and continue for 2.5-3 hours through the historic Old Port, downtown and waterfront areas, sharing highlights of Portland's history since 1820 and as far back as 1632. Stories and facts are shared by highly trained guides with a passion for local history, sights and landmarks. They will bring history alive as you enjoy this leisurely, scenic stroll. Since we like to end on a sweet note, you will be treated to a dessert at the end.

    The City Council established the Martin Luther King Recognition Task Force to consider how the life and legacy of the Civil Rights Leader Dr. Martin Luther King may be best acknowledged and recognized, in the form of renaming a street, park or similarly situated public space, by the City of Portland. The members appointed by the City Council will offer their recommendations to the Sustainability and Transportation Committee for review and consideration.
