Mayor Snyder Reflects on Biden-Harris Win

portland news

Mayor Kate Snyder issued the following statement in response to Joe Biden and Kamala Harris becoming the President and Vice President-Elect.

“With great sincerity and enthusiasm I congratulate President-Elect Biden, and Vice President-Elect Harris. Their historic victory heralds great hope for civility and progress in America and abroad.

Last night, the President-Elect said that he will seek to unify, not divide. I firmly agree that ‘It's time to put away the harsh rhetoric, lower the temperature, see each other again, listen to each other again.’

Our challenges in Portland, like every other community in the United States right now, are great. We must work together to stem and overcome Covid-19. Together, we have to face and fight systemic racism. We need to invest in housing, education, healthcare, and respond to those most vulnerable among us, all within challenging financial times. I am encouraged that we will soon have leadership in Washington that grounds its guidance and decisions in science, and process that includes rather than excludes.”
