City to Test Extended Hours in Treasury Office

portland news

The City of Portland, in an effort to better serve its customers, is testing new operating hours for the Treasury Office. Beginning November 20, the office will stay open until 6:30 PM twice a month in December, January, February, and March. The Treasury Office processes vehicle and boat registrations, and collects property taxes and stormwater payments. The City will track how many transactions it conducts during this pilot to ensure that the hours meet the needs of customers, and should there prove to be a demand might increase the frequency.

The office is currently open from 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM. The office will now stay open from 8:30 AM to 6:30 PM on the following Wednesdays:  November 20, December 4, December 18, January 15, January 29, February 5, February 19, March 4, and March 18.

The City is also in the process of implementing queue management software for the Treasury Office in order to improve wait times for customers. The technology will allow customers to be able to determine least busiest times to visit, see wait times in real time, sit until called to the counter, and even go away and come back at a more preferable time.

These efforts are the results of the City’s new director of innovation and performance management working closely with members of the Finance Department and Treasury Office to improve customer service.

As a reminder, auto registration renewal transactions can be conducted online and property taxes can be paid online.
