[ARCHIVED] Preble Street Playing Fields – Geotechnical Investigation

The Department of Public Works will conduct a geotechnical investigation under the Preble Street playing fields beginning the week of September 9, 2019.  The contractor, Sargent Corporation, will have a drill rig and staff onsite to complete the work.

This work is being conducted to assess the soils under the playing fields which will be the future home of the Back Cove South Storage Facility (BCSSF).  The BCSSF project is intended to capture and reduce the volume of Combined Sewer Overflows (CSO) into Back Cove by providing 3.5 Million Gallons of storage for the combined waste during storm events.  The facility will be located under the playing fields.

The City is in the preliminary stages of design and more information will follow.  Construction of the facility is slated to start in Winter 2019/2020.  The playing fields will be restored at the end of the project at a higher elevation to prevent the tidal flooding which currently occurs.

If you have any questions please contact Brad Roland, Senior Project Engineer at 874-8840.
