Ryan Francis Named New Barron Center Administrator

The City of Portland is pleased to announce that it has named Ryan Francis as the new Administrator of the Barron Center, the City’s skilled rehabilitation/nursing and long-term care facility. The Barron Center has provided skilled nursing and rehabilitation services to individuals in need for more than 200 years in our community.

“Ryan has been an integral member of the leadership team at the Barron Center since he joined us in 2015,” said Dawn Stiles, Director of the Health & Human Services Department. “His compassion for the residents and their families, and advocacy for their right to live their lives to the fullest has been obvious in his daily interactions and efforts on their behalf. He was quickly embraced by staff and residents/families. It is clear he will continue the Barron Center tradition of quality and excellence in care.”

“I am honored to continue my career as a City of Portland employee as the Barron Center’s new Administrator,” said Ryan Francis. “I look forward to continuing the great traditions of quality services provided to our residents as well as developing new ones that work to optimize the well-being of our residents.”

The Administrator is responsible for the day-to-day operation and oversight of the facility and reports to the City’s Director of Health & Human Services. Mr. Francis had previously been the Director of Life Enrichment and Volunteer Coordinator at the Barron Center since 2015. He has more than 10 years of experience in therapeutic recreation as well as a Bachelor’s of Science degree in that field from the University of Southern Maine. He recently completed and passed the National Nursing Home Administrators Board exam required to obtain licensure.

The Administrator position became vacant when Karen Percival retired. Edward Latham has been serving in the capacity as Interim Administrator.
