Public Health Staffer Helps Launch New National Childhood Trauma Prevention Campaign

On Wednesday, October 19, 2016 a team from Portland Defending Childhood including Barrett Wilkinson from the City’s Public Health Division attended The White House launch of the Changing Minds Public Awareness campaign. This awareness-raising campaign is designed to increase understanding of the impact that toxic stress and trauma has on developing brains, and promote the positive things caring and protective adults can do to support children and youth.

The campaign is part of the national Defending Childhood Initiative which was initially launched by former Attorney General Eric Holder, who spoke at the event. Other speakers included Karol Mason Assistant Attorney General, Broderick Johnson Assistant to the President and Cabinet Secretary, and Esta Soler President and Founder at Futures Without Violence.
